Nowadays, the world is racing forward. Places and situations can change in the blink of an eye. We all feel overworked. In our pursuit of money, dreams, entertainment and pleasure it’s easy to forget what’s truly important. Without good health, we won’t be able to enjoy all those things we’ve worked so hard for.

Physical activity and a proper diet are no longer simply about keeping up with trends. They’re certainly in fashion, but that’s not the only benefit. Having a membership at the best fitness club in the city or using the same catering services as fitness celebrities sounds impressive, doesn’t it? However, apart from these parks that seem to have been taken straight out of “Sex and the City”, you should consider the other benefits that come from combining physical trainings with a healthy diet.

Firstly, looking after yourself pays off. We try to take the best care of our own children; we cook healthy meals for them and ask our grandparents to grow organic vegetables since it’s so hard to buy nutritious foods nowadays. But what do we do for ourselves? Yes, yes, I know… I’ve heard it a million times. THERE’S NO TIME. Sadly, I don’t consider this a real argument. For me it’s just another excuse. And what do you think?

Today’s fitness clubs are available 24/7 and constantly strive to make their offer even more flexible. Isn’t a lack of time simply poor time management on your part? Don’t you get the feeling that the more things you have to do, the easier it gets when you try and juggle them all? Suddenly, you’re able to better manage your day – there’s a little bit of time for everything. Some of you will probably say… I have kids, a demanding job, a dog, another hobby and I don’t have time to worry about sports and a diet. So, what you’re saying is you don’t have the time to look after your health? Most people in Poland live the same way you do, but there are those who manage to find the extra time. Which group do you belong to? Are you happy with the group you’re in?

First thing’s first. Organize your day so that you have some time for yourself. Everyone deserves some “me time”.Can you use it to go training? If yes, then great! Now, let’s move on to step number two.

Secondly, find yourself a trainer. The chances that you’ll be able to handle everything by yourself and stay motivated for longer than a few weeks are very slim. I may be exaggerating, but only to make a point. If you’re a beginner at the gym and feel unsure, the sheer number of gym equipment seems overwhelming, you don’t want to look ridiculous and don’t know which exercises are suitable for you, then remember this: you don’t have to possess this knowledge. Turn to a professional for advice. After all, when you have a toothache, you go to the dentist. You don’t try to fix whatever’s hurting you by yourself.

Thirdly, find a physical activity that is interesting and makes you happy. Nothing is more discouraging than repetitive, boring training sessions on a treadmill which you resort to simply because it’s the only piece of gym equipment you’re familiar with. Have you heard of introductory classes? If not, then catch up on some reading!

Another aspect is introducing healthy eating habits into your daily routine. Do it gradually. If, until now, you’ve been eating business lunches at local restaurants followed by a glass of whisky after hours, then it’s not a good idea to go on a restrictive diet overnight. Start by taking small steps. On week one, try drinking a lot of water. On week two, drink only one coffee a day instead of the usual three. On week three, try giving up the whisky in favor of wine – and stick to a glass, not the whole bottle! If you’re used to challenging yourself in your professional life, then why not try setting the bar a little higher in your private life as well? Think of this as of a new project: “Living it up 100%”.

After making these small preparations, you should be ready for greater changes. On the weekend, try cooking a healthy meal together with your wife/husband or even your kids. It’ll be a pleasant change from what you usually do. You can also start bringing food from home to work instead of eating out or giving up sweets. Try not to lose your head and focus on making conscious decisions daily. I assure you, it is all very possible and you will benefit from this if you only give yourself the chance.

Don’t be afraid of facing new challenges and trying again if you failed the first time. Don’t give up on yourself or use the “lack of time” excuse because nothing is as satisfying as succeeding in every aspect of life. Your job isn’t everything. Try living it up 100%.
